SENSIO Technologies declared today that their SENSIO 3D format decoder has been adopted by Sigma Designs. The latter is a large and well-respected company that provides high-performance Systems on a Chip (SoC’s) for various home related applications like entertainment and home automation. Sigma is licensing SESIO to enable manufacturers of Blu-ray players, HDTV’s, AV receivers, Set top boxes, etc. to provide their customers the next generation in visual entertainment — 3D.

Sigma’s vice-president of strategic marketing, Ken Lowe, said that SENSIO is a renowned for the image quality that it can produce and it has a wide range of compatibilities with existing products. It can easily transform normal home entertainment setups into an immersive experience thanks to stereoscopic visual display. All the while delivering a true 1080p image quality. Hence, it was an obvious choice for Sigma.

It must be noted here that SENSIO’s wide range of compatibilities likely to have tipped the balance in its favor. Since 3D is an emerging market, there is need for these compatibilities for companies that are looking for smooth transitions into the future of entertainment.

After integrating SENSIO into their setup, Sigma’s product will be made widely available to the market, making it easy for any manufacturer to just pick up the component chip and use it in their own devices for enhanced video handling capabilities within small spaces and niches.

Enhanced chips like this one from Sigma are going to form the hearts of the first-generation home entertainment devices that also incorporate 3D into their features. Even though live airing of 3D content is still someway off in most areas of the world, enjoying private 3D collections and 3D gaming has definitely picked up in recent times. And with new movie releases happening in 3D often enough, the trend is sure to catch on soon.
