Looks like the future as seen by numerous sci-fi films is about to become a reality. Japanese researchers at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology ( NIAIST) have developed a system through which you can not only see 3D images but you can then manipulate anyway you like. Theoretically it will be just like handling a 3D object in real space. So yes, other than motions sensors it also devices for haptic feedback.

The personal computer industry is moving fast in order to step up the move to the next generation of computers. These are the PC’s that will be equipped at the development stage with 3D capabilities, touchscreens and will be made into designer models that will appeal to the modern aesthetic sensibilities of people. Gaming regulars aside, even casual Playstation owners will have a hard time to ignoring the fact that Sony has two new tricks up its Playstation sleeve. One is the Playstation 3D and the other is the Playstation Move, with the latter being obviously Sony’s answer to the Wii from Nintendo which took the casual gamers by a storm. But 3D is also coming to the gaming world in a big way and quite a few implementations of it are quite well done in the gaming world. And judging from the reviews all around, that seems to include the Sony Playstation 3D as well.

As it turns out, the Nintendo leak reported earlier was spot on. Nintendo finally unveiled their latest handheld gaming device at E3 and it is a nice piece of work. Dual touchscreens and the best part is this — 3D viewing without glasses. So the nightmare I had about looking like a dork in public wearing 3D glasses, is not going to come true after all. Nintendo is mimicking the home theatre industry actually and going all out on 3D. Indeed, both of them have the same reason to do so — sagging sales.

Looks like we have a leak on our hands. Nintendo has apparently been planning to release a 3D handheld gaming console that will take over from the Nintendo DS. This gaming machine is going to be called — 3DS. Clearly, they didn’t have to go through too many brainstorming sessions to come up with the name.
