At a time when 3D movie viewing has just begun getting into the mainstream, a lot of people are already complaining about the need to wear 3D glasses. They would much rather do without them. However, since it is a necessity to view 3D properly right now, Gucci has decided to give you an option to watch 3D in style. They have announced their own pair of 3D glasses, complete with the retro aviator look.
The first question that might pop in to a lot people’s head is why would they buy a pair of 3D glasses when there are multiple kinds of 3D glasses around for their respective technologies. There’s active shutter, there’s polarized and some proprietary formats too. This pair from Gucci presumably uses the common type that is found at movie theaters. Which would mean these are polarized. So when you go to the movies, you know you won’t look like everyone else. And there’s more.
According to a report by Inside Edition, the glasses used at the movies can be a germ magnet. Our eyes are quite vulnerable to infection and glasses are very good carriers for germs. So when you are wearing a pair of glasses that has been used by an untold number of people, you are exposing yourself to a lot of germs. A few moments of pondering on this angle can easily make you want to completely avoid 3D movies from now on or it can also make you want to buy your own 3D glasses. Plus these glasses have been specially treated so that you can see your own reflection in the mirror without any distortion. So you avoid germs and make sure that you look good at the same time. But even if you want to buy it, can you afford it?
Gucci has priced their 3D glasses at a modest $250, hoping to generate some sales this Christmas. I sincerely wish them luck.
