Eight months after it took the Box Offices everywhere by storm and smashed all records of earning by earning about $3 billion worldwide, Avatar is going in for another record. It is going to rereleased soon for an end of summer come back to theaters all over the US. This is going to be the shortest time gap between the release and rerelease of a film ever.

James Cameron gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly where he talked about how 3D is changing the cinema world and how much he respects his fans. He also talks about the extra nine minutes that are going to be in this rerelease version.

From what he has to say about the nine new minutes of never before scene footages, it seems like he’s doing a bit of fan-service by showing some more of Pandora’s wonders. It’s going to have a new creature called Stingbat and it will also have more scenes of luminescent Pandora surroundings. But the biggest fanservice of all is probably the extension to the Neytiri & Jake love scene.

When asked about whether is the extended Director’s Cut that is often released after a successful movie, James replied that this is only a special Limited Edition for watching in the theaters. A special, DVD-only Director’s Cut version will come out for the movie later. So that is saying that the fact that this version of the movie will never be on DVD but the extra footage will probably be there with more content on the director’s cut.

James also touched upon the hurried 3D movies and the negative reviews that they are garnering for 3D — saying that the market is just “overheated” and that it is really going through a “recalibration” period. Ultimately, he sees a future where 3D will be the normal form of viewing just like color has become a standard now.
