Looks like the people of Russia will soon have their own 3D blockbuster. And it will be tinged with a lot of public sentiment and historical reminiscing. An announcement was made in Moscow this Monday, saying that a massive project will be undertaken to make a movie based on the Battle of Stalingrad in full 3D.

Famous Russina movie director and actor, 43 year old Fyodor Bondarchuk, has decided to undertake a the production of a film based on the battle of Stalingrade and make it a 3D movie. It will be an immensely difficult task to achieve and will challenge both the creative and the technical prowess of the production team.

Fyodor’s production studio is called Art Pictures and it will be handling the movie. The house has started to consult the leading US expert in 3D visual techonlogy — Vince Pace. Vince is the same man who also assisted James Cameron while the latter was making his epic 3D adventure — Avatar. Avatar smashed all records by netting a global box office of over $2 billion.

The script for the movie “Staligrad” has been in the works for over two years now, Bondarchuk informs, and is apparently almost done at the moment. The cast selection is also currently happening at the moment, says Bonderchuk. He was quoted saying that it was really hard work to get all of this together before the actual shoot begins.

The shooting will be done majorly in the city of present day Volgograd, formerly Stalingrad. The movie is scheduled to come out in 2012-2013, during the 70th anniversary of the battle of Stalingrad.

But Bonderchuk is facing perhaps the most difficult part of all at the moment and that is fund raising. He needs about $30 million and he says he only about one-third of that at the moment.
