DSG International, is the second largest electricals retail store in all of Europe and it is looking forward to the 3D TV’s as much as some of you are right now. According to them, it will be the magic sauce that will drive sales this year.

DSG plans to have a big summer and a generally big year thanks to the SD TVs that will be coming out in force over the summer time. John Browett, CEO of DSG International, opined that the the early adopters are really going to drive the sales because this year it is mainly going to be a niche product. According to him, the main stream will kick in to 3D only in 2011. According to him, this is true for all new technologies and changes — the second year is when it really starts picking up.

John said this while visiting a DSG megastore in Thurrock. This store also happens to be the UK’s largest electricals store. DSG it planning a massive cost cutting and revamping drive. So they really need their sales to pick up. Although, they have shown a huge amount of growth last year that has put their total worth close to £2 billion.

DSG’s stores are currently changing their format and getting revamped. They are also taking pre-orders for 3D TV’s. The store experience, according to John, is what really helps selling the TV. Customer come in and they are really impressed by the viewing experience. It acts like wow factor really.

John talked about the advent of rich 3D content in the form of enhanced cinematography and the production of animations, films etc. in 3D. All of this new content will finally drive the 3D Tv rush. Already there are huge blockbusters that are shot in 3D, like Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.
